howdy from pittsburgh

so last night riding with medic 2 in pittsburgh, i attempted my first 2 ivs. blew one vein and totally missed on the other. fortunately for the patient, my preceptors dont let me turn them into human pin cushions. so i usually only get one try. so thats 0 for 2. batting .000 for the season. should get better. i am awaiting my field intubation (the passing of a tube through someone's vocal chords so as to oxygenate their lungs) but i will get my practice at an anesthesia shift coming up soon. i did go for a 12 hour shift with one of the STAT Medevac helicopters but of course with my luck - i get no flights at all. the helicopter did not leave the ground.

other than that, the paramedic program is going really well. contrary to luis (my friend from PFARS also at the program) i have more fun on my hospital rotations while he is turned on by his medic truck time. good for luis. good for me too now that i realized i want to go to medical school.

other news than that - i went back to princeton last weekend, spent some time with the lil bro, made it for pub night at quad and just enjoyed spending time with people. but then i got the princeton plague, got sick, and didnt go out saturday night and instead slept for the 5 hour drive back to pittsburgh.

before that i saw serenity a couple weeks ago - its amazing - strongly recommend it, but watch the tv show on dvd first. it'll make the movie that much better. the only sad thing is to realize that serenity and firefly is now over.

i have veronica mars on dvd right now, so i'm finally getting through all the episodes in the proper order. such a good show - i highly recommend it. its a very well done and compelling tv show. not to mention kristin bell is so hot.

beyond that, social life here is starting to be fun. going to bars with some of the guys. had an interesting night on tuesday at a bar that let some of the 20 year old juniors at Pitt drink as well. i think that might be a tuesday tradition.

anyways...

When you see this on your friends list, quote some Firefly

i guess its a trend:

Saffron: I do know my bible, sir. On the night of their betrothal the wife shall open to the man as the furrow to the plow. He shall work in her again and again, til she bring him to his full. And rest him then upon the sweat of her breast.
Mal: Whoa. Good bible.

Jayne: [into radio] Testing. Captain, can you hear me?
Mal: I'm standing right here.
Jayne: [into radio] You're coming in good and loud, too.
Mal: 'Cause I'm standing right here.
